The Cal Men’s Lacrosse team was founded in 1964 and has experienced decades of success. The team currently competes in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA), a national organization of 200+ programs, winning the MCLA Championship in 1998 and reaching the 2019 MCLA title game after being undefeated and ranked #1 for most of the season.
The Golden Bears compete in the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL), which is composed of Cal, Stanford, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, Santa Clara, Sonoma State, Nevada, Dominican and Chico State. The Bears have won the past two WCLL Championships in 2018 and '19, for a total of 7 titles.
Within UC Berkeley, the Cal Men’s Lacrosse team is recognized as one of just three Gold Tier club teams, receiving priority facility usage for our practices, games, strength and conditioning program, and film study. We receive operational support for our professional game day atmosphere in historic Memorial Stadium, our unrivaled venue in the MCLA, with boisterous crowds, Jumbotron, live streams and the Cal Straw Hat Band.
Members of the Cal Men’s Lacrosse team come from all over the country and even abroad. Many chose to attend Cal instead of accepting offers from NCAA programs due to our elite education, multiple Top 5 majors, vibrant student life, gorgeous campus, comfortable weather, and proximity to beaches, mountains and cities of culture. The Bears continue to thrive in our academic, athletic and social pursuits, achieving the perfect balance within the college experience.
